The Salvation Army is the directorial debut of the young Moroccan writer Abdullah Taya, based on his autobiographical novel of the same name. The film tells the story of the protagonist's coming-of-age in the first person: "I" (Said Mrini) was born into a large family in a Moroccan port. Despite the high level of homophobia in the Arab world, adult men also find ways to address their needs in private. Due to the heavy burden on "me", the cowardly father acquiesced to the men to sexually harass "me" in order to obtain material reward. The strong older brother (Amine Ennaji) is the only positive male figure in "my" life, so "I" has adored and secretly loved my brother since childhood. However, when my brother eloped with a barmaid, my life was turned upside down, until 10 years later, I embarked on a study abroad trip to Geneva, Switzerland...... "The Salvation Army" is the first gay film in the Arab country of Morocco, and was shortlisted for the International Film Critics' Week unit of the 70th Venice Film Festival.
