After being orphaned, Ether (Anna Maxwell Martin) is invited to Bleak Hills with Richard (Patrick Kennedy) and Ada (Carey Mulligan), who are involved in the same property division case, where they are greeted by their hospitable host, John (Denis Lawson). and his buddy Harold (Nathaniel Parker).　　Baroness Ether (Gillian Anderson) has an untold past, and lawyer Tuggin Horn (Charles Dance) is hell-bent on getting to the bottom of it. Ether and Richard fall in love, but their love is opposed by John, who, in John's opinion, has his own business first.
